Last weekend I had the pleasure of capturing L + E’s wedding day. In typical San Diego fashion the sun was shining, and there was not a cloud in the sky. It was a warmer day, but the breeze carried a little chill of fall.
When L told me she wanted to do her first look off site, and expressed how she imagined a very private moment I knew I had to make it happen. Sometimes couples have big ideas, and I always do my best to make it happen. So, after some timeline shifting and coordinating between other vendors we made her vision happen. We did their first look at Sunset Cliffs, and it was arguably one of my favorite parts of the day.
We got to give them a moment alone with the most stunning backdrop. The sound of the waves hitting the rocks below, the ocean breeze, it couldn’t have been any better. Getting to capture his reaction, and let them have a few moments alone together was everything.
I photographed the day with a mix of digital and film, but lately I’ve been leaning more into film. I love how it slows me down on a wedding day and invites me to be more intentional. I find myself drawn to capturing candid moments on film, because the colors and grain translate emotion in such a timeless way. There’s a sense of nostalgia to it, almost like flipping through your parents photo album.
